Psychoanalytic Controversies
The Psychoanalytic Controversies section of the International Journal of Psychoanalysis was introduced in 2003 to provide a platform for discussing critical debates in the field. Over the years, various topics have sparked significant interest, reflecting the diverse perspectives within the analytic community.
The general aim of the section is to explore nuanced differences within analytic approaches and integrate clinical material relevant to controversial topics. We hope that the Controversies section will be key in fostering a deeper understanding of differences between analytic schools of thought, encouraging meaningful dialogue, and challenging basic assumptions and stances.
Recent Controversies have included:
What constitutes a psychoanalytic identity?
Debating well: Why don’t we, and how can we?
Can we think psychoanalytically about transgenderism?
Can we think psychoanalytically about transgenderism?
